USAID’s SEED held a Matchmaking event on the 24th of June at the Cairo Marriott Hotel, that aims at the integration of Ready-made Garments (RMG) MSMEs into larger buyers supply chains. The objective of the matchmaking is to increase the revenue of the MSMEs through the resulting potential deals.
SEED has previously integrated 193 enterprises from selected value chains into larger supply chains through supporting their participation in local and international exhibitions as well as in matchmaking events.
In collaboration with MSMEDA, B2B Company and through applications created by USAID’s SEED technical team, 18 MSMEs and 17 buyers were selected to participate from 9 governorates, namely Cairo, Alexandria, Giza, Ismailia, Dakahlia, Sharkia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Gharbia and Qalyubia. The total participants amounted to 60 MSMEs and buyers.
According to the MSMEs evaluation sheets and as a result of the event, participating parties are expected to close around 47 deals, at an estimated value of EGP 12,830,000.00. A total of 18 linkages were also created that could consequently turn into deals.
Abdel Hamid Al-Mowafy, one of the participating suppliers, stated that “SEED has enabled us to expand and grow our RMG businesses and increase our production capacity through the various matchmaking events that it organizes.” Hussein Makhlouf, another owner for Alexandria for Manufacturing stated that “We only used to export our goods rather than trade on the local markets, but we found this event to be very useful in providing us with good insight to the local market’s mechanisms and specifications.”
